Real Farm. Real Water. Real PEI.
Your adventure begins aboard our tour boat, where our qualified shipmaster and a real mussel grower, Blaine Laybolt will take you out onto the stunning waters of St. Peter's Bay, one of the oldest settled communities on the Island and the birthplace of blue mussel cultivation in Canada. This isn't a lecture. It's a living, breathing mussel farm, and you're right in the middle of it.
You'll learn the full life cycle of the blue mussel, from microscopic larva to table-ready shellfish from our knowledgeable tour guide. You’ll see and touch mussels at every stage of growth, along with whatever other marine life decides to make an appearance.
We’ll wrap up the tour inside a state-of-the-art mussel processing facility and get a behind-the-scenes look at how PEI's world-famous mussels become the premium product you find on menus across North America. An expert guide walks you through every step, giving you access to the part of the story most people never get to see.
Woven throughout is the remarkable story of PEI Mussel King and the Dockendorff family, who have spent nearly 50 years pioneering the mussel farming industry right here in St. Peter's Bay. Add in the area's rich history, iconic PEI landmarks, and the Bay's unique geography and wildlife, and you have a tour that is as fascinating as it is unforgettable.
